Rare uncontacted tribe photographed in Amazon

RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Amazon Indians from one of the world's last uncontacted tribes have been photographed from the air, with striking images released on Thursday showing them painted bright red and brandishing bows and arrows.

This is SO COOL! I am imagining their reaction to all of the amazing technological things that we have now! They freaked out over a helicopter, just wait until we show them the iPhone! :] How could you live in complete isolation for so long?! What a peaceful life they must've led!

Maybe I'll join their tribe...

I had no idea there were still undiscovered tribes. I guess I just assumed we had discovered all groups. That is so weird that they have lived such a separate life. It's kind of scary with all the deforestation going on around the world. Hopefully they'll be left alone! It would be so strange to see other people and objects for the first time as an adult. I think that would be kind of scary! What an interesting story.

I think this isnt surprising because on the travel theres this show sunday about a tribe that lives the same way. I think this may be a hint to the people cuting down the forest, that maybe they need to stop because your cuting down peoples homes

I want to go in there with a video camera and record the first interaction between this tribe and the rest of the world! It reminds me of the scene from 1492 where Columbus and his men meet the natives.

That would be very weird. Like the analogy Mr. Caro told us: it would be like aliens landing on earth to us. I think it would be very interesting how they adjust to modern technology (such as cameras, phones, cars, ect.) this would show something about the human experience because its a culture shock for them. I would really like to see how they react to photographs, or phones and simple stuff that we have always known. and what happened to the RAIN FOREST!! this is egregious!!

People need to do the right thing and leave them alone. Hopefully this is a big wake up call to all those who destroy the rain forest that they are destroying homes. What I don't understand is how these tribes have managed to live in isolation for so long, especially since they are in a landlocked area. crazy. this is so cool...k well i have to go back to my current events project lol

After discovering these tribes, the people should stop cutting down the trees! If they don't, the tribes might start attacking us, creating a little war, making innocent lives die. But I find it very fascinating how they didn't have any contact with the world for that long! I mean, how did they survive and everything?! If you find out anything more about this Caro, please tell me!

that's very interesting. my mom was saying that she thought this had happened before from a hurricane or tropical storm. the natives were like chasing that helecopter down from what i saw in the photos i would probably run away from it not towards it.

The clash of civilizations! I fear the rain forests will not last. Nor will these peoples' way of life.

I feel so naive for not knowing that there are uncontacted tribes still left on this planet. I thought that everyone has been contacted. I read that they've lived undisturbed for over 10,000 years! I couldn't believe this news when I heard it. I have mixed feelings on the topic, too. I really want to see their reaction when they see how we live and the technology we use on a daily basis. At the same time, the attempt to make contact with isolated tribes can often end in death for them. Tribes people without natural immunity to common illnesses are most likely going to die from exposure to outsiders. So I guess since the alternative is death, I would leave the isolated tribes alone.

Good points Nicole. I wonder if contact is inevitable due to the planet getting smaller with more people, better technology, and the hunt for natural resources.

Will do Joan!

Wow. I had no idea there were like an estimated 100 undiscovered tribes in the world today. I wonder how they will cope with people coming into their territory, my guess is that if people were to make contact with these natives, the outcome would not be good for them because of the many new diseases they would encounter. I wonder how they would react with new technology they never knew existed.

I'm with aaron..."wow." that's crazy! They've developed their own language and everything! With no contact to the outside world! It's so cool! Although, no electricity..."iPhone" (Alex). I don't know how long i would last. I've gotten so used to coming home and turning on the TV!

I hope they leave them alone! we dont need to corrupt them to... but doubt that will happen...

It would be interesting to revisit the Enlightenment here with Locke, Hobbes, Rousseau, etc.

There aren't words that can describe my utter amazement at this. We've spread our influence so far, and discovered, what I thought was, so much that it's just unfathomable to think that there were people out there that were unaccounted for in the world census. That had lived without the technologies we take for granted.

How long have they been there? What are we going to do now? Will we go and talk to them? What language do they use? What kind of written language do they have? And what kind of governing policies do they use?

This is a small microcosm to the universe. Think about all of the things we have not discovered on our own planet? How much could we be overlooking in our own galaxy? This just gives more probability that we are not the only life in our universe. Or even in the Milky Way. People who refuse to except this or even discuss the possibility are closed minded and ignorant.

Wow.

this is very interesting. it makes you think... the world is small, but its still pretty unknown. we may think we've got it licked, and yet here is this brand new group of people completely isolated from the world we live in

i do hope that the loggers will leave them the surrounding rainforest, and a generous amount at that. and i think that they should be the ones to discover us
and not us barge in on them.
not that i believe thats going to happen

Allie and Katie,

Insightful comments! I think we have a unique opportunity here to "do it right" and demonstrate to these people the better side of modern human civilization and not be forceful. I hope we do not judge them as we have done to countless numbers of others.

Wow! I hadn't even heard about this before. It's weird to think that there could be even more tribes living around the world that we don't even know about! I really think the best thing to do is just leave them alone. They seem perfectly happy with where they are so why ruin that for them just because the government says it's "illegal". They were probably there before owning or claiming land like that was even made illegal so personally I think it shouldn't be. Hopefully this all ends well.

I think that's pretty cool seeing a whole new tribe. I'm surprised that nobody's ever ventured into those areas before. I thought we've covered all the land on the earth already, but i guess not. Its just amazing how they've managed to stray from civilization for so long.

That's crazy I can't imagine how they must have reacted when they saw the chopper. It's weird to think that there are still people in this world that have no idea about how much technology has advanced.

I hope they are exposed to the wonders of Brittany Spears and Optimus Prime.

I am ready to visit the tribes and show them that they really want nothing to do with modern life.
